Framed Madhubani Painting of Lord Ganesha

Traditional Indian Folk Art

This framed artwork is a classic Madhubani painting, celebrating Lord Ganesha, the beloved elephant-headed Hindu deity known as the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom and beginnings.

Central Image: Lord Ganesha
At the center is a striking portrait of Lord Ganesha, seated calmly against a vibrant yellow background. His skin tone is a warm golden yellow, blending naturally with the background, and his posture is composed and divine.

Ganesha is shown with four arms, each holding a sacred item:

A battle axe in his upper right hand,

A lotus flower in his upper left,

A sweet delicacy (modak) in his lower left,

And his lower right hand is raised in a blessing gesture, known as abhaya mudra, symbolizing protection and reassurance.

He is dressed in a red dhoti with white and green accents, heavily ornamented with traditional jewelry, and wears a beautifully patterned crown with multiple shades. His trunk curves gracefully to the left, and his single large eye, outlined in black, gives him a serene, watchful presence. The yellow background is subtly decorated with fine floral patterns, providing a soft contrast to the vibrant foreground.

Framing Elements and Borders
Ganesha is surrounded by multiple decorative borders—each adding texture, color, and rhythm to the composition.

Closest to him is a black-and-white zigzag border, giving a dynamic and rhythmic visual motion.

Next is a broad band filled with alternating green, red, and yellow circular dots, reminiscent of marigolds and festive rangoli patterns.

Further out is a checkered strip with green, red, and white squares, giving a modern yet rooted aesthetic.

Elephant Motif Rows
Above and below Lord Ganesha’s portrait are horizontal rows of elephants—five in total on each side. These elephants are stylized in earthy orange and dark brown, each uniquely patterned but unified in posture and style. Their ears are shaped like fans and decorated with white floral or feather-like patterns, giving them a ceremonial look.

The elephants are drawn in traditional Madhubani style, flat and side-facing, forming a symmetrical visual echo of the central Ganesha motif.

Overall Feel
The painting is encased in a classic, carved brown-and-gold wooden frame, enhancing its timeless appeal. The overall effect is spiritual, festive, and grounding, with every detail meticulously placed to honor tradition while celebrating color and harmony.
